The early signs were promising. Novelette broke through at Great Yarmouth in July 2025 before backing it up with a win at Sandown Park just three weeks later. That was the high point. Since then, the horse has been in and out of the placings without recapturing that spark. Over the last six races, there have been two places sandwiched between finishes well down the order, including a 16th recently. That kind of erratic form suggests the horse may be struggling to find its true level or that circumstances—ground, pace, or opposition—haven't aligned in its favour.

The Crisford yard at Newmarket is no backwater: they've sent out 78 winners this season, so there's solid training behind Novelette. At Class 5 level—the lower tiers of British racing—the horse has a respectable 33% win rate (1 win from 3 races), hinting that it may simply be overreaching in tougher company. With the horse currently active and racing regularly, there's still time for a turnaround, but the 14-month drought since that last Sandown win suggests Novelette is either still hunting for its best distance and surface, or it has simply levelled out as a horse for occasional placed efforts rather than a consistent winner.
