What stands out most is the trajectory. The two most recent results — a pair of 17th-place finishes — represent a significant step backwards from the earlier showings of fourth and fifth, which at least suggested a horse running with purpose. Finishing 17th is generally a sign that something went wrong on the day, whether that's the pace of the race, the ground, or simply a horse that wasn't at its best. Back-to-back results like that, in a career that hasn't yet produced a win, make for tough reading.
That said, Not So Serious raced just yesterday, so this is very much a horse in active training with more chapters still to write. At five years old, there's no pressure to write it off — plenty of horses take time to find their feet and their ideal conditions. The question for the team will be working out exactly what brings the best out of this horse, because the ability to finish fourth and fifth suggests there is something there worth finding.
