Not Me

What makes that winless record particularly striking is where Not Me has been competing. Class 4 is a mid-level tier of British racing — not the glamour end, but not the bottom rung either — and the horse has gone 0 from 6 at that level. That is six chances at a standard, realistic grade for a horse of this type, and six times it has come up short. At some point, the question becomes whether a change of approach is needed, or whether there is simply a glass ceiling here that is proving very hard to break through.

Trainer Ivan Furtado operates out of Wiseton in South Yorkshire, and the yard has been in decent shape this season, sending out 34 winners — which shows there is no shortage of ability in the team when horses perform to their potential. The fact that Not Me has not contributed one of those winners is not necessarily a reflection on the yard; some horses take longer to find their moment, and some never quite find it. But with Furtado's outfit clearly capable of winning races, there will be hope that the right opportunity eventually unlocks something in this horse. Not Me raced just one day ago, so it is very much an active story — and in racing, the next run is always another chance to rewrite the script.
