The recent form figures — 2, 8, 6, 6, 10, 5 — tell a mixed story. That "2" at the top is the one bright moment, a runner-up finish that shows it can at least compete at the sharp end. The rest, though, are mid-field and towards the back, and a 10th-place run in there is not encouraging. What you are looking at is a horse that has flashed potential once, then gone quiet.
The one genuinely interesting thing about No Risk Today is who is training it. Fergal O'Brien, based in Withington in Gloucestershire, has sent out 90 winners already this season — that is a serious operation, not a small yard making up the numbers. When a trainer of that calibre keeps running a horse that has not won, it usually means they can see something in it at home that has not fully translated to the track yet. Whether No Risk Today ever delivers on that patience is the open question. It raced just yesterday, so whatever that answer is, it is coming soon.
