No Nay Nevermind

The most recent run was just yesterday, which means this is a horse that is very much still in active service and still searching for that elusive first victory. The last six results read 9-9-6-5-7-2, which tells an interesting story — the second place is clearly the highlight, but it's bookended by a string of mid-pack finishes and two dead-last efforts. That's not the form of a horse on the rise.

Jockey Mohammed Tabti has been the regular partner, riding No Nay Nevermind in 10 of those 19 races without a single win to show for it. That's a long run of faith from the yard, and patience is clearly one of the virtues here. Trainer Iain Jardine, operating out of Carrutherstown in Dumfries and Galloway, is no stranger to winners — his yard has sent out 57 of them this season, so this isn't a case of a struggling operation. The horses around No Nay Nevermind are winning. This one just isn't.

Most of its races have come at Class 6, which is the bottom rung of British racing — the level where horses go to find races they can be competitive in. No Nay Nevermind has run 11 times at that level and has yet to win any of them. In a field specifically designed to give horses like this a chance, it still hasn't managed to get its nose in front. At some point, the question stops being "when will it win?" and starts being "will it ever?" Three places from 19 races is something, but as a career summary for a horse now four years old, it's a thin return. The team clearly hasn't given up — and yesterday's run proves that — but No Nay Nevermind has a lot of convincing still to do.
