No Mean Feat

Recent form has been mixed. In his last six outings, No Mean Feat has finished sixth, first (that Fontwell Park win), fourth, sixth, fourth, and a run we don't have details for. So while he delivered the goods at Fontwell, the pattern shows he is more likely to finish in the middle of the field than near the front. He typically races at Class 5 level — the lower tiers of British racing — and has not won any of his nine races at that grade, making last week's victory at Fontwell an outlier rather than the start of a winning run.

Aaron Anderson, who rides him most often, has yet to find the winning formula aboard: they have raced together five times without a win. The horse is trained by Simon Hodgson at Dogmersfield in Hampshire. Hodgson's yard is in reasonable form this season with eight winners to date, so the team clearly knows how to get horses across the line — No Mean Feat's breakthrough suggests they may finally be working out what this particular horse needs. Still, with just one win from nineteen races, he remains a horse who shows occasional promise but delivers rarely. That victory last week will at least have given the yard something to build on.
