A horse that wins first time out and then places in its very next race is showing a level of consistency that trainers dream about in the early stages of a career. Two races is a tiny sample, but a 50% win rate — winning 1 in every 2 races — is the kind of number that turns heads.

What makes No Lunch genuinely interesting at this stage is how little we actually know. The Chantilly win tells us it can handle that track and that it arrived ready to perform. The placed run tells us it did not fall apart when asked to do it again. Whether it can step up in class, handle different conditions, or hold its form through a longer campaign are all questions still to be answered — but right now, the early signs are about as good as they get.
