Richard Hannon's yard at Herridge in Wiltshire is one of the most productive operations in British racing, and the numbers back that up. One hundred and eighteen winners from a single season is a serious tally — that works out to well over two winners every week, week after week, all season long. Hannon specialises in young horses and has a strong record of developing them steadily through their first campaigns, which means Night Star is in exactly the right hands to improve with experience.
At this stage, the finishing positions matter less than the experience being banked. Most young horses need a few runs simply to learn how to race — how to settle, how to travel through a field, how to respond when asked to quicken. A third and a fifth from two attempts suggests Night Star is competitive without yet having found top gear. Whether there is a win lurking just around the corner is the interesting question, and with a yard firing at this rate, it would be no surprise at all to see this horse step forward sharply next time out.
