Nickelforce

Here is the puzzle: Nickelforce has run 12 times at Class 4 level, which represents the bread-and-butter middle tier of British racing, and has not won once. Not a single one. Yet the horse has four career wins to its name, which means every single victory has come elsewhere — either stepping up in class or dropping down to easier company. That is an unusual profile. Most horses find their level and win there. Nickelforce seems to perform better when the conditions are different from the norm.

The most recent win came at Wincanton on 8 November 2025, around five months ago, and the first career victory arrived at Plumpton in January 2024, giving the horse a window of form that has produced all four wins in roughly two years of trying. Since that Wincanton success, the last six runs read 4-1-2-2-3-4 — which, read from the bottom up, shows a horse working its way steadily forward. A fourth, a third, two seconds, a win, and then a fourth most recently. That is a horse in decent nick, not one that has fallen away since its last success.

Jack Quinlan has been the regular partner, riding Nickelforce in 10 of its 24 races and winning once together — 1 from 10, or 10%, which is modest but tells you this is not a straightforward horse to get right. The fact that Quinlan keeps coming back suggests the team at Edgcote still believe there is another win in there. Given that Nickelforce raced just yesterday and is very much an active runner, the next opportunity is not far away. Whether it comes at the level the horse has repeatedly found frustrating, or somewhere slightly different, is probably the key question worth watching.
