Never Let Go

The first win came at Wolverhampton in December 2024, a promising way to get off the mark. But the defining moment of Never Let Go's career so far arrived six months later, on 20 June 2025, when it stepped up to win a Class 2 race at Ascot — one of the most prestigious venues in British racing. Class 2 means you're competing near the top of the sport, against horses with serious ability and serious ambitions. Winning one as a four-year-old, at Ascot of all places, is not something that happens by accident.

The broader record tells a slightly interesting story. At Class 4 level — the comfortable, familiar territory — the horse has won just one from four, a 25% win rate. At Ascot, running against much better competition, it delivered its best performance of the season. That suggests there may be more to Never Let Go than the everyday numbers imply; some horses simply raise their game when the occasion demands it.

Ed Walker trains out of Upper Lambourn in Berkshire, and his yard has been in excellent form — 75 winners already this season, which is the kind of output that tells you the operation is firing. When a yard is running hot like that, good horses tend to get the right opportunities at the right time, and Never Let Go appears to be benefiting from exactly that kind of management.

Recent form reads 2-5-2-1-3-2, with the only blip a fifth-place finish sandwiched between a string of podium performances. The horse raced just three days ago and remains active. The Ascot win was its last victory, and the yard — the team at Walker's yard — will be hoping that one big-occasion performance is a sign of where this horse is heading, rather than a one-off peak. Given how rarely it runs a bad race, the smart money is on more places at minimum, and perhaps another big day on a big track.
