Neon Diamond

The career arc is an interesting one. The first win came at Limerick in April 2024, which opened the account, but it was the second win at Killarney in July 2025 that really caught the eye. Killarney is a summer festival track with a party atmosphere and genuine competitive fields, and winning there tells you a horse can deliver on a big day. That said, Neon Diamond has not won in six races since, with recent form showing a couple of fifth-place finishes and a runner-up effort as the best of it — close enough to remind you the ability is there, not quite close enough to get the job done.

The trainer is Gordon Elliott, one of the most powerful yards in Ireland, based at Longwood in County Meath. Elliott's team has sent out 210 winners already this season — that is a factory-level output, and it means horses in this yard are prepared and placed well. The regular partner in the saddle has been Jack Kennedy, one of Ireland's top jump jockeys, who has ridden Neon Diamond in 7 of its 16 races and won once together — a win rate of about 1 in 7. That partnership has not yet clicked into something special, but Kennedy is the kind of rider who can absolutely maximise a horse when conditions are right.

What makes Neon Diamond worth watching is the combination of active racing — it ran just yesterday — and the backing of a yard that clearly believes there is more to come. A horse trained by Gordon Elliott does not keep getting runs if the team has given up on it. At 7 years old, it is in the prime years of its career, and with a placed effort already in recent form, another win is not a stretch to imagine. Whether it comes soon is the question.
