Mystic Moment

The promising angle here is her sweet spot at distances between seven furlongs and a mile. Over that range she has won once from seven races, roughly a 14% win rate, which suggests she has genuine ability when conditions suit. Trainer Neil Mulholland, whose yard at Limpley Stoke has been firing out winners all season, has consistently finished in the top 3 her over these distances. She noted before her winning run that she was a filly who kept running strongly after being outpaced, the kind of late-finishing tendency that plays to 7f distances where pace alone doesn't decide the race. The problem is that when she steps up into Class 2 company—the top tier of racing—she has managed no wins from three attempts. Charles Bishop, her regular jockey, has yet to steer her home in front from five rides.

Mystic Moment remains a work in progress. She proved she could win at a respectable level once, but her recent form has been lean and her record against stronger competition is blank. At only three years old she still has time to develop, but at the moment she looks like a horse who has found her level and is settling in there.
