What makes My Girl Katie's story more interesting than her overall statistics might suggest is the dramatic difference between her performance on fast, dry ground and everything else. She's won four of her last five races on such conditions — an 80 percent win rate that's remarkable — but the record elsewhere is much softer. She clearly hates wet or muddy going. Born to gallop on a firm track, she's the kind of horse that needs the ground to be right.
