Musical Touch

The first win came at Wolverhampton in October 2024, and the second followed at Thirsk in April 2025 — but that Thirsk victory is now roughly 12 months in the rear-view mirror, and Musical Touch hasn't won since in six attempts. The recent form figures of 15-15-6-4-3-6 (reading from most recent back) tell their own story: a horse that was nudging into contention earlier in that sequence but has since drifted towards the back of the field in its latest two outings. On top of that, it's been off the track for around six months, which means the yard — the trainer and their team — will be keen to see how sharply it returns.

One detail that does stand out is the partnership with jockey Oisin Orr. In five races together, they've won twice — that's a 40% win rate, or 2 wins from every 5 rides. For context, most jockey-horse combinations never find that kind of rhythm at all. When Orr is in the saddle, something clearly clicks.

The trickier part of the picture is that Musical Touch has been running most often at Class 4 level — the middle tier of British racing, a step below the top end — and has drawn a blank in all six races at that grade. Both career wins have come elsewhere. That's not necessarily alarming, but it does suggest the horse may find life easier when dropped into slightly softer company. Whether the team opts for that route on its return from this break will be one of the more interesting questions heading into its next run.
