Musical Act

The most recent six runs paint a picture of a horse trying hard but not quite getting the job done. A tenth-place finish followed by a miss, then placements in seventh and sixth, and another miss capped by a fourth just days ago—this is a horse that shows up but doesn't figure in the results often enough. Yet there is something worth noting: Musical Act raced only yesterday, which means it is still actively campaigned and the yard believe there is a race to be won. Trainer Ciaran Murphy, based at Mullingar in Ireland, has had a productive season with 18 winners sent out from the yard, so there is competence in that corner.

Both of Musical Act's wins came at Kempton Park—the first in August 2023 and the second that November victory. This is the kind of detail that sometimes matters in racing: a horse that knows a track well and has tasted success there can sometimes find its way back to the winner's circle at that particular course. Whether Musical Act ever does is another question, but for now it remains a genuine contender at lower levels, a horse that needs one more winning day after a long drought.
