Trained by K. R. Burke at Coverham in North Yorkshire, Mugheer is part of a yard in excellent form this season. Burke has sent out 145 winners already, which speaks to the quality of horsemanship and the strength of the operation behind the horse. The fact that Mugheer managed a winning race so quickly—and at Catterick Bridge, which is not the softest track to crack for a newcomer—suggests the trainer has identified something worth backing. What happens next will be revealing: does the horse bounce back from that fourth-place run, or was the debut win the eye-catcher and the fourth a more honest assessment of where he sits? At two years old, there is plenty of time to find out, and with the yard clearly willing to race him frequently, we will know soon enough.
