Mount Shenshan

Trained by Thomas Mullins at Goresbridge in County Kilkenny, Mount Shenshan is part of a modest yard that has sent out just two winners this season. The horse is most often partnered with jockey Danny Mullins, with whom it has run ten times without success. What makes Mount Shenshan worth watching now is its recent form: despite the long drought since that February victory, it has shown consistency in placing, finishing third and fifth in two of its last three races. For a horse with such a meagre win rate, that level of finishing in the placings suggests it remains competitive at its level — capable of mixing it on any given day, even if the victories remain hard to come by. At eight years old and still racing after nearly three decades of attempts, Mount Shenshan is the definition of a trier, the kind of horse that gives its all even when success eludes it most of the time.
