That said, the yard behind it is no slouch. Charlie Fellowes trains out of Newmarket — the heartland of British flat racing, a town that exists almost entirely for the sport — and has sent out 20 winners already this season. That is a healthy operation, which means Morningtoncrescent is at least getting professional care and decent opportunities. The horse raced just yesterday, so the yard are clearly keeping it busy and looking for a breakthrough.
At three years old, there is still time to find a race that suits. Some horses take a while to click, and four runs is a relatively small sample. But the current form makes for grim reading, and until Morningtoncrescent finds a way to finish closer to the front, it remains one for the watching brief rather than the betting slip.
