The recent form tells a more sobering story. In the last six races, the best result has been a fifth, and there have been two tenth-place finishes either side of it. No wins, and nothing that screams a big performance is just around the corner. With that Gowran Park victory now eleven months in the rear-view mirror, the question for everyone around the horse is whether that day was a sign of things to come or a one-off that has yet to be followed up.

Jockey Ben Coen has been the regular partner, riding Morehampton in six of its ten races and landing that sole win together. That gives them a win rate of around 1 in 6 — or 17% — which is actually a respectable return, even if recent outings have not added to the tally. Trainer J P Murtagh, based at Coolaghknock Glebe in Co Kildare, has had a productive season with 53 winners sent out, so the yard clearly knows how to get horses into the winner's enclosure. Morehampton just needs to find its way back there. Having raced as recently as yesterday, this is very much an active, ongoing story — and at three years old, there is still time for the horse to turn things around and make that Gowran Park win look like the beginning of something rather than the entirety of it.
