What we do know is the breeding. Moonshine River is by Sea Moon, a son of the great Galileo who showed real ability at the top level, and comes out of a mare by Accordion. That combination hints at a horse bred to stay — to travel a longer distance and gradually find its rhythm rather than burst out of the gate. Whether Moonshine River has inherited that stamina and patience is a question only the racecourse can answer.
Six years old is notably mature for a first appearance. Most horses make their debut at two or three, so arriving this late suggests there may have been reasons for caution along the way — though exactly what those reasons are, only the yard knows. What it does mean is that when Moonshine River does cross that line for the first time, it will be a fully grown, physically developed horse rather than a youngster still finding its feet.
