What is worth noting is the stable behind the horse. Charlie Johnston trains out of Middleham Moor in North Yorkshire, and his yard has sent out 131 winners already this season — a volume of success that marks it out as one of the busiest and most productive operations in the country. Horses trained there tend to be well-prepared, and when a yard is firing at that rate, it suggests the team knows what they are doing. Moon Zabeel raced just one day ago, so this is very much a horse in the middle of its story rather than at the end of it.
At three years old and with only two races to the name, it would be wrong to write Moon Zabeel off. Some horses simply take time to find their feet, and having a trainer with Johnston's firepower in their corner is no small thing. The next run will tell us a great deal more.
