What Monologue will do on debut is anybody's guess. A first race is genuinely unknown territory — the horse might take to it naturally, or it might need another outing or two to settle and learn. Thorne's record this season suggests the yard backs horses it believes in, but there's no way to tell if Monologue is among the best of that bunch or a project being given time. The pedigree is solid — both sire and dam come from stock that can race — but that means nothing until hooves hit the track. The next outing will tell us far more than anything we can read beforehand.
