Mondammej

The purple patch to talk about came in the autumn of 2021, when Mondammej won three times in the space of two months. It kicked off with a Class 2 at Haydock Park in September — the first win of its career — then followed up with back-to-back Class 2 victories at Wolverhampton in October and November. That sort of consistency over a short spell is hard to manufacture, and it showed a horse at the top of its game. Wolverhampton has clearly suited it well over the years: two wins from just six races there is a better record than the overall numbers suggest, and a course that clicks like that is always worth noting.

The most recent win came at Newcastle in January 2025, now about 18 months ago, and the last six runs have not produced another victory — finishing sixth most recently. That said, a horse racing actively at nine years old, still placing and still lining up in decent company, is not one that has fallen apart. It raced just yesterday, which says everything about its durability.

Jockey Cam Hardie has been the constant throughout, partnering Mondammej in 65 of its 68 races and claiming all seven wins together. Winning roughly 1 in every 9 times they team up is a solid partnership at this level. Trainer Antony Brittain, based in North Yorkshire, has sent out 23 winners this season — a busy, productive yard. One thing the numbers make clear is that ground conditions matter: on normal ground, Mondammej wins 5 from 28 races, roughly 1 in every 6, which is noticeably better than its overall rate of 1 in 10. Catch it on a good day, on a track it knows, and this is a horse that can still deliver.
