What stands out is not just the wins themselves, but the form around them. Mister Pessimistic has won two of his last six races—a 33% win rate that puts him in genuinely good company for a young horse still learning the game. More tellingly, he has been placed in two of those races as well, meaning he has finished in the top three in half his recent starts. His jockey, John Gleason, was particularly impressed by how the horse travelled and won that Cork race, noting that it suggested something better might be coming once he got properly tuned up over hurdles. The pedigree—the horse's bloodline—points to a horse that will improve with distance, and Gleason reckoned that having an obstacle in front of him would sharpen him further.

The one puzzle is the eleven-month gap since that Cork win. His last six races, in reverse order, read fourth, eighth, ninth, sixth, then those two wins. The rhythm is harder to read now, especially with just one race in the last year. But a horse trained by de Bromhead, at a yard that has saddled 110 winners this season alone, rarely falls through the cracks by accident. If Mister Pessimistic genuinely does improve over hurdles as his the yard believe, and if Christmas brings the chance they are planning for, he could yet live up to the early promise that made people sit up and take notice.
