Miss Moonshine

Her best days have come at that level. All four of her career victories have arrived in Class 6 races, where she has won 4 from 31 starts — a win rate of 13%, just above 1 in 8. Her first win came at Kempton Park in January 2023, and her most recent at Southwell in March 2024, now 25 months ago. That gap is the part worth watching. Her last six runs read 9th, pulled up, 8th, 4th, 10th, 12th — a stretch without much to celebrate, though a fourth-place finish in there shows she has not entirely lost her way.

The partnership with jockey Oliver Searle is the most consistent thread running through her career. He has ridden her in 28 of her 38 races and has been aboard for all four wins, giving them a win rate together of 14%, or roughly 1 in every 7 rides. That kind of loyalty between horse and jockey is rarer than it sounds — most horses cycle through multiple riders — and it suggests the team around her genuinely believes Searle gets the best out of her.

She is trained by Rod Millman at his yard in Kentisbeare, Devon, a quiet corner of the country not typically associated with racing's big names. But Millman has sent out 40 winners this season, which is a serious output and a sign of a yard operating with real purpose. Miss Moonshine raced just four days ago, so she is clearly in an active campaign right now, and the question is whether Millman and Searle can coax one more win out of a horse who has shown she knows how to get her nose in front — even if the wait for the next one is growing longer.
