Miss Ellie Mae

What gives that single result some useful context is the yard behind her. Trainer Gavin Cromwell, based in Navan, County Meath, has sent out 103 winners already this season — a serious body of work that marks him out as one of the more productive handlers around. A horse coming out of a yard producing at that level deserves a second look, even at this very early stage.

There is simply not enough yet to say where Miss Ellie Mae is heading or how good she might turn out to be. One race tells you almost nothing. But she has shown she can handle a debut without embarrassing herself, she has a competent team around her, and she is active right now. The next run will be far more telling.
