Most of those races have come at Class 6, the entry-level tier of British racing, and even there Mishy's Star has drawn a blank — zero wins from seven attempts at that level. That matters because Class 6 is where horses compete at the bottom of the ladder, against rivals who are themselves struggling to win races. Going winless at that level over eleven attempts suggests this is a horse that finds things genuinely difficult, rather than one that has simply been unlucky or pitched in against better company too soon.
Jockey Josephine Gordon has been the regular partner, teaming up with Mishy's Star six times without a win between them. Gordon is a capable rider who has racked up plenty of winners in her career, so the blank record here is unlikely to be down to the person in the saddle. Burke's yard has been in decent form this season — 13 winners sent out — which makes Mishy's Star something of an outlier rather than a symptom of a struggling operation.
The recent form figures of 11-11-3-5-7-8 do at least hint at a small flicker of improvement. That third-place finish stands out against a backdrop of finishes deep in the field, and the horse has raced as recently as 19 days ago, so the yard are clearly still trying. Whether the breakthrough ever comes is an open question, but for now Mishy's Star remains one of racing's most persistent works in progress.
