The most promising moment so far came in his third race, when he finished second—a sign that he has shown enough ability to run close to the winners, even if he hasn't quite got there himself. His most recent form has been inconsistent, though: a 12th place, then the second-place finish, followed by a fifth, and now the sixth last time out. This is typical of a young horse still developing and working out what racing demands, and Botti's yard is clearly confident enough to keep racing him regularly. The Newmarket trainer has sent out 45 winners this season, so Mino is in a yard with genuine expertise. It may just take time, and another race or two, before he breaks through for that first win.
