Mini Mac

The most recent win came at Nottingham on 10 May 2025, and before that, the first career victory arrived at Brighton back in October 2024. So Mini Mac took a while to get off the mark, but then managed to win twice in the space of a few months, which showed some genuine improvement. The problem since then is that the form has gone cold. The last six runs read 2-4-8-10-6-12 in reverse order, which tells a story of a horse that finished second on its most recent outing but has otherwise been struggling to land a blow — that tenth and twelfth place finish in the mix suggest some difficult days as well as the occasional near-miss.

The bulk of Mini Mac's racing has come at Class 5 level, which is the bread-and-butter tier of British racing — competitive enough, but not the glamour end of the sport. From 16 races at that level, the record is 2 wins from 16, or about 1 in 8, which is perfectly respectable at that grade. The shorter trips seem to suit best: across five races at distances between five and six-and-a-half furlongs, Mini Mac has won once, a win rate of 20% — or 1 in 5 — which is a meaningful clip compared to the overall career average.

Jockey Benoit De La Sayette has been the regular partner, riding in five of those races and picking up that one win together — again, 1 in 5. That's a decent relationship to have with a horse that doesn't always make things easy. The trainer, Jessica Macey, operates out of Doncaster in South Yorkshire and has sent out 13 winners already this season, so the yard is clearly in decent form even if Mini Mac hasn't been among the winners lately.

Raced just yesterday and still active, there's clearly no shortage of ambition here. The question is whether that second-place finish on the most recent outing is a sign of a horse finding form again, or just a false dawn. Worth watching over the shorter distances.
