Miners Gamble

Recent form offers no encouragement. In its last six outings, the horse has managed just one top-three finish — a third place — while slipping down the field in the other runs. It raced just yesterday, finishing fourth, part of a pattern of near-misses and mid-field efforts that characterise its whole career. Ben Robinson, its most regular rider, has won just once aboard the horse from 12 races together, despite riding it regularly through its toughest stretches.

Miners Gamble performs best at distances between a mile and a furlong and a mile and two furlongs, where it has managed a 1-in-10 win rate. Even that modest improvement has not translated into consistency at the higher levels it now faces. In Class 5 races — which sit near the bottom of the ladder — the horse has won zero from nine attempts. Trained by Brian Ellison at Norton in North Yorkshire, a yard that has sent out 43 winners this season, Miners Gamble remains one of the handful that has not yet found its way into that winners' list in 2024. For a horse that showed promise once, two years is a long time to wait.
