That sole career victory came at Newton Abbot in April 2022, and it remains the defining moment of Mind Hunter's record. He has not managed to repeat it since, across six subsequent races that have produced a string of fourth, fifth, third, fourth, ninth, and second place finishes — frustratingly consistent, you might say, at falling just short. The second place in that sequence is particularly tantalising: close enough to touch, but still not quite.

Over distances of two miles or more, Mind Hunter wins roughly 1 in every 14 races — 7% from 15 attempts — which is modest but tells you he at least has a chance of competing at the longer trips, where stamina and staying power matter more than raw speed. He tends to race at Class 5 level, which is the bread-and-butter tier of British racing, and his 1 win from 15 races at that level confirms he can get competitive, even if winning remains a rare event.

He is trained by Bernard Llewellyn, who operates out of Fochriw in Mid Glamorgan — a small yard that has nevertheless sent out 7 winners already this season, which shows the operation knows how to get a horse ready to perform. Mind Hunter raced just one day ago, so he is very much in active training and clearly still being aimed at opportunities his team believe he can take advantage of. Whether that elusive second win is coming is hard to say — 49 months is a long time to wait — but with recent form showing more places than disasters, he is at least still in the conversation.
