On paper, Milena Camilla has every reason to be a decent racehorse — the question, as always with a two-year-old on debut, is whether the promise on the page shows up on the track.
She is trained by Dermot Weld, one of the most respected figures in Irish racing, operating out of his yard at the Curragh in Co Kildare. His team has sent out 21 winners already this season, which tells you this is a yard firing on all cylinders. Weld has a long record of bringing young horses along patiently and placing them well, and the fact that he has chosen to run Milena Camilla now suggests she is ready to show something. Trainers of his calibre rarely throw a well-bred two-year-old into a race just to give her a day out.
