Mighty Magnus

Mighty Magnus races most often in Class 4 events — the bread-and-butter level for horses of modest ability — and has yet to break through at that grade, recording no wins from four attempts. The partnership with regular rider Connor Beasley has yielded just one win from nine races together, leaving room for either horse or jockey combination to click more decisively. Michael Dods, the trainer based at Piercebridge in County Durham, has had a productive season with forty-three winners sent out from the yard, so the infrastructure is solid. The real question hanging over Mighty Magnus is whether last month's activity — posting a second place just a day or two ago — signals the horse is close to another winning opportunity, or simply more of the same moderate run of recent months. Time will tell whether this horse develops into something better, but for now it remains a work in progress.
