Midgham Man

With a record of one win and one place from three races, Midgham Man has already done what many young horses never manage in their early outings. His recent form reads 1-4-5 in reverse order, meaning he won, then ran fourth, and came fifth most recently. That dip over his last two runs is worth noting, but at two years old and with barely a fortnight's racing under his belt, a single win is a genuine achievement. He's winning roughly one in every three races so far.

Rod Millman's Kentisbeare yard in Devon is in excellent form this season, having sent out 42 winners already. Millman is clearly doing something right, and Midgham Man's debut victory suggests the trainer has identified a horse with real potential. Whether the four-year-old dip is simply the normal learning curve of a young horse getting used to racing, or something that needs addressing, the next few weeks will tell. Either way, a winning two-year-old is always worth keeping an eye on.
