What makes this worth watching, though, is the yard behind it. Trainer Ian Williams, based in Portway, Worcestershire, has sent out 96 winners already this season — that's a serious operation, not a small stable hoping to get lucky. When a yard is firing at that volume, horses that haven't found their feet yet tend to get time and opportunity to do so. Williams clearly knows how to place a horse and get results, which means Midak's run of blanks isn't necessarily the end of the story.
Midak raced just one day ago, so this is a horse very much in the middle of its campaign. Three races is still a small sample — plenty of horses take longer than that to figure out what racing is all about. The question now is whether Williams can find the right opportunity to unlock something better.
