Mi Sueno

That one career win came at Fakenham in February 2024, over a long distance on a winter's day, and it remains the sole peak on an otherwise flat record. It happened 28 months ago now, and Mi Sueno hasn't managed to repeat the trick in the six races since. The current run of form reads 5-4-2-9, which suggests the horse is competitive enough to place but hasn't found that extra gear when it matters most.

Where Mi Sueno does show some encouragement is over longer trips — races of two miles or more. Of its 20 races at that kind of distance, the one win has come there, giving it a win rate of 5% at long distance compared to a much bleaker record at shorter trips. It's a small margin of difference, but in racing, trainers look for any edge they can find. Mi Sueno also tends to run at Class 5 level, which is the bread-and-butter tier of British racing, and has won 1 of 14 races at that level — roughly 1 in every 14 tries. It's modest, but it shows the horse is placed in races it is at least capable of winning.

The trainer is David Brace, who operates out of Pyle in Bridgend and has sent out two winners so far this season. It's a small yard, and Mi Sueno is clearly one of the more experienced horses in the team's care. Raced just yesterday and still active, this is a horse that keeps turning up, keeps trying, and occasionally — if the conditions are right and the distance is long enough — gives the team something to cheer about.
