Mercurius Power

The horse's last win came at Southwell on 30 August 2024, now nearly two years ago. Since then, form has been patchy. In the past six runs, Mercurius Power has not won, finishing fourth, fourth, fifth, second, fifth and eighth respectively. That second-place effort shows there is still a spark — the horse can still run close to the front — but finding the winners' enclosure has become increasingly elusive. When racing at Class 5 level, where the standard is lower, Mercurius Power has managed just one win from 20 attempts, suggesting it rarely has the edge needed even against modest opposition.

Jessica Macey's Doncaster yard has saddled 13 winners this season, and Mercurius Power remains an active member of the string despite its quiet spell. The horse is most often partnered by Lewis Edmunds, though their record together is modest: two wins from 19 races, roughly an 11% win rate. Still, for a horse that wins so rarely overall, finding a regular rider is its own form of partnership. At eight years old, Mercurius Power is reaching an age where many racehorses wind down, but its recent activity — last raced just a day ago — suggests there is still racing left in it yet.
