Mephisto

What does work for Mephisto, at least in theory, is distance and ground. He has won twice on normal, dry ground from 15 attempts (13%), and his bigger strength is stamina—he has won five races over two miles or longer, a win rate of one in every eight races at that trip. The problem is putting those elements together when he actually races. Trained by Gerard Keane at Trim and most often ridden by Colin Keane, Mephisto has been a useful horse at his level, a solid midfield performer who occasionally finds his way to the front. But at nine, racing actively and posting a string of unplaced and mid-field runs, he belongs to that familiar racing category: a long-serving competitor who gave his the yard a few good days and has now become a familiar, hardworking part of the scenery.
