The track is an all-weather, artificial surface course in Surrey, and some horses simply take to it in a way they never quite manage on grass. At the level Maximising typically competes — broadly speaking, mid-tier races where the prize money is modest and the fields are competitive without being elite — the horse has won 1 from 5, a 20% win rate, which means it wins roughly 1 in every 5 races at that grade. For context, that is a respectable return. Winning a fifth of your races at any level takes real ability.

The recent form figures — 2, 2, a blank, 4, 1, 5 reading from most recent backwards — paint a picture of a horse that has been knocking on the door. Back-to-back runner-up finishes suggest Maximising is fit, competitive, and finding its level, even if the winning feeling has not arrived again since January.
