She competes almost exclusively at Class 6, which is the entry level of British racing — the point where horses either show enough to move up or find that this is simply where they belong. Despite running ten races at that level, she has yet to win a single one. In a field of rivals who are ostensibly her equals, the breakthrough has not come.
Her trainer Alan Brown, based at Yedingham in North Yorkshire, is a modest-sized operation that has quietly sent out ten winners this season — proof that the yard knows how to get horses to the track in form. Brown's own words about her are telling. When she arrived, she was small and had been kept in a field nearby by her owners. Nothing about her background screamed racetrack. But Brown noted that she did everything right in training, improving with every gallop, and suggested she was the type of horse who would take time to come to herself and benefit from racing experience. That was the theory, at least.
The difficulty is that nineteen races in, the experience has not yet translated into a win. Raced just one day ago, she is clearly still being actively campaigned, which suggests the team has not given up on her. Sometimes a horse just needs one thing to click — a particular track, a softer surface, a day when everything goes right in running. Mavetheforcebewivu has not found that day yet, but she is still looking for it.
