Mashad

Mashad is a 2-year-old starting out in racing under the eye of J. P. Murtagh, a trainer whose yard at Coolaghknock Glebe in County Kildare has already sent out 53 winners this season. The horse ran for the first time just over a day ago and finished fourth, which is exactly what you'd expect from a young horse making its debut. There is nothing to worry about in that result — most first-time racers do not win their opening race, and a fourth-place finish suggests Mashad stayed competitive through the race rather than being outclassed. With only one outing under its belt, it is far too early to draw any real conclusions about what this horse might become. Murtagh's strong record this season — winning regularly from his Irish base — suggests he has decent horses in the yard, and Mashad will have its chances to improve and show what it can do as it gets more experience on the track.
