What gives the profile some real interest is the team behind it. Richard Hannon's yard at Herridge in Wiltshire has sent out 118 winners already this season — that is a seriously productive operation, and horses trained there tend to be well-prepared and well-placed. When a stable of that size and success rate keeps running a horse, it usually means they believe there is something worth developing. Magi Melchior raced just one day ago, so this is very much a horse in active campaigning, with the yard clearly patient and still finding their feet with it.
At this early stage, two runs is a small sample. Plenty of horses finish fourth twice before putting it all together — and with a powerful yard behind it and its whole career ahead, it would be premature to write Magi Melchior off. The next run will be worth watching.
