The recent form reading of 1-3 shows a horse who finishes races and picks up places, which matters. A third place before the win suggests he was finding his feet and learning the game, and when the moment came at Exeter, he delivered. Whether that course suits him particularly well is something only more racing will tell, but for now Exeter is where he became a winner.

With only three races to his name, Macklin is still very much a work in progress, and it would be unfair to read too much into any single result. What the record does show is a horse who has already proved he can win — which, as straightforward as it sounds, is something a surprising number of horses never manage to do.
