Ma Jacks Hill

The turning point came when his trainer Gordon Elliott, who runs a prolific yard sending out 210 winners this season from Longwood in County Meath, decided to have a wind operation performed. Before that, Ma Jacks Hill had disappointed, but afterwards everything changed. His first win arrived at Gowran Park in early October 2025, and four months later he won again at Punchestown in June. That's a win rate of roughly one in every seven or eight races — modest on paper, but meaningful given where he started. Jockey Jack Kennedy, who has ridden him five times and won once, has found something to work with.

The real intrigue lies in what Elliott and his team believe comes next. Ma Jacks Hill is described as a fine, big, galloping horse who has struggled on tiring ground but should improve on faster, drier conditions. More tellingly, Elliott has already marked him down as a chaser — a horse that will eventually jump fences rather than race on the flat. Chasers often mature late and discover their best form over obstacles, which suggests Ma Jacks Hill may have his best days ahead, not behind. For now, he is a horse in transition: past his early disappointments, finding wins, but not yet at the level his the yard believe he can reach. That future potential is what keeps him interesting.
