She's been a regular partner for jockey Ben Godfrey, the two of them teaming up five times without getting their heads in front. That kind of loyalty from a yard suggests they still believe there's a win in her somewhere. The trainer, Kayley Woollacott, operates out of Woolminstone in Somerset and has been in decent form this season, sending out 16 winners — so this isn't a small or struggling operation. When a yard like that keeps running a horse, it usually means they see something worth persisting with.

Most of Lydeard Girl's races have come at Class 4 level — solid, mid-tier company — where she's yet to win from three attempts. The fact that she's placed at that level without breaking through is a little frustrating, but it also means she's not being outclassed. She's competitive. Racing currently, she's an active project, and given two recent seconds, the feeling from the yard will be that the right day is coming.
