The most encouraging chapter in Lunar Power's story involves jockey Colin Keane. In five races together, the pair have won twice — that is a 40% win rate, or 2 from 5, which is genuinely striking in a sport where even the best combinations win less than a quarter of their races. Those two wins represent half of Lunar Power's entire career tally, which suggests Keane either brings something out of this horse, or has simply had the luck to be in the saddle at the right moments.

On ground conditions, Lunar Power clearly has a preference. On normal, standard ground it has won 3 of its 15 races — that is a 20% win rate, or roughly 1 in every 5 — which is a solid return by any measure. Compare that to its record at Class 4 level, the grade it most commonly enters: 0 wins from 7 races. That is a puzzle worth watching. It suggests either the competition at that level has been a fraction too sharp, or the conditions simply haven't fallen right.

Lunar Power is trained by Laura Mongan at Epsom in Surrey, a yard that has sent out just one winner so far this season. With the horse currently active — it raced just yesterday — and no win on the board since 2023, there is clearly some patience being shown here. At eight years old, Lunar Power is not a young horse with time to burn, but it is still racing, still placing, and still showing enough to keep the yard coming back. The question is whether a combination of the right ground, the right jockey, and the right day can produce a fifth career win before the clock runs out.
