Warwick and Taunton are not the grandest stages — Luna Run mostly competes at Class 5, which is the bread-and-butter level of British racing — but winning is winning, and at Class 5 Luna Run has a record of 1 win from 13 races, or roughly 1 in 13 at that level. The fact it has taken time to convert competitiveness into victories is worth noting, but the horse is clearly in good form right now.

The partnership with jockey Isabel Williams has been a long-running one — 13 races together, with 1 win between them, which is about 1 in every 13 rides. That's not a high conversion rate, but loyalty in a partnership often speaks to belief in a horse's potential, and Williams was in the saddle for this week's win. Harry Derham trains Luna Run out of Upper Lambourn in Berkshire, and his yard is having a strong season — 53 winners sent out so far this term, which suggests a well-organised operation with plenty of horses in form. Luna Run, now a 7-year-old, is clearly still part of the yard's active plans, having raced just one day ago. At an age where some horses are winding down, Luna Run is very much still in business.
