His trainer Dan Skelton, based just outside Alcester in Warwickshire, is one of the most prolific yards in Britain right now — 198 winners in the current season alone, which tells you this is not a small operation firing shots in the dark. Skelton noted ahead of this season that Louis Veron showed plenty of natural speed on debut and that there was more to come. The horse has since made good on that promise.
Both of his wins have come at tracks very close to home. He broke through at Warwick in early June, then followed it up at Stratford-on-Avon less than a fortnight later — two wins in quick succession at neighbouring courses, both in Warwickshire, both within a short drive of the yard that trains him. Whether that local knowledge plays any part is hard to say, but the results speak for themselves. His most recent race was just yesterday, so Louis Veron is very much a horse in the middle of an active campaign.
The only slight note of caution in his record is that seventh-place finish which sits at the top of his recent form — a bump in the road after those back-to-back wins. But with a horse this young and this consistent across his career as a whole, one off-day is far from a cause for concern. At 40%, he is winning at a rate that most horses never come close to, and with a trainer firing on all cylinders around him, there is every reason to think the best of Louis Veron is still ahead.
