What is worth noting is that Little Wing raced just yesterday, so this is very much a story still being written. O'Brien's yard has sent out two winners this season, which is a modest return, and Little Wing hasn't contributed to that tally yet. Whether the horse simply needs more time to find its feet, or whether stronger options in the yard are soaking up the best opportunities, is hard to say from the outside. What the form does tell us is that three attempts have brought three finishes deep in the field, and there is no obvious upward curve in those numbers to point to.
At this early stage of a career, patience is the only sensible position. Some horses take longer than others to show what they are capable of, and a 3-year-old with just three races under its belt is still relatively lightly tested. But Little Wing will need to show something more the next time it lines up if it is to give anyone a reason to believe a corner is about to be turned.
