Lion's Pride

Lion's Pride has three wins and nine places from 14 races, which is a solid return at any level, but what makes it genuinely impressive is where those wins have come. Two of them are Class 1 victories — the very top tier of British racing — and a third came in a Class 2. These are not consolation prizes or easy pickings. Winning at that level even once puts a horse in a small and select group; doing it twice marks Lion's Pride out as a proper top-level performer.

The Kempton Park story is particularly striking. Two wins from five races there, starting in July 2023 and building through to a Class 1 victory later that year. Some horses simply click with a track — the bends, the surface, the way the race tends to unfold — and Kempton appears to be that place for this horse. Then came the Newmarket win in September 2025, a Class 1 on one of the most prestigious stages in the sport, which confirmed that the Kempton form was no fluke. The Gosden operation is one of the most powerful in Britain, sending out 140 winners this season alone, and Lion's Pride has shown it belongs at the sharp end of even that formidable string.

One detail that rewards attention is the record on wet or muddy ground: 2 wins from 5 races, a 40% win rate. When the heavens open and other horses are struggling to lift their feet, Lion's Pride is apparently finding an extra gear. That kind of preference can be a real weapon if the team targets its races smartly.

The recent form reads 6-4-1-6-2-5 — a win, a couple of placed efforts, and a few races where it has not threatened. Lion's Pride raced just yesterday, so there is clearly still plenty going on. The partnership with jockey Kieran Shoemark is one puzzle yet to be solved: five rides together without a win. Whether that changes is one of the more interesting questions around this horse going forward.
